Child Sex Offences


Sexual conduct toward children is made illegal by different laws in Queensland. The most serious offences are rape and maintaining an unlawful sexual relationship with a child, which are both punishable by life imprisonment. Lesser charges include performing an indecent act in public, which carries a maximum penalty of only 2 years imprisonment but which will ordinarily result in a term of custody for a person guilty of it in relation to a child (even for a first offence).
