Drug Court Information for Parents
A Drug Court is a specialist court for adult offenders who have a drug dependency. They help people overcome both drug dependency and criminal offending by diverting them into individual treatment programs supervised by the Court for a minimum of 12 months.

Youth Drug and Alcohol Court (YDAC)
The Youth Drug and Alcohol Court (YDAC) is a specialist court for young offenders between ages of 14 and 18 who have a drug dependency. The Court aims to help teenagers overcome both drug dependency and criminal offending by diverting them into individual treatment programs supervised by the Court for up to 12 months.
Magistrates’ Early Referral Into Treatment (MERIT) Program
The MERIT program is a diversion program that provides offenders who have a drug or alcohol dependency an opportunity to work towards rehabilitation as part of their bail process. If accepted into the program a drug treatment program is developed that matches the person’s needs and runs for approximately 3 months.
Court Referral of Eligible Defendants into Treatment (CREDIT) Program
The CREDIT program is a voluntary crime prevention program currently in its trial stages that provides offenders a wide range of treatments and services to assist them and reduce their chances of reoffending. Depending on the type and number of issues the program may last up to 6 months.
Traffic Offenders Program (‘TOP’)
The Traffic Offenders Program (‘TOP’) is a voluntary program that consists of lectures covering topics such as the legal system, defensive driving, the police, Sentencing Options and Victims of Traffic Accidents.
Forum Sentencing brings together the offender, victims, and any other person affected by a crime. The purpose of bringing the parties together is to find creative solutions to repair the harm done to the victim and the community and reduce the offender’s likelihood of re-offending.
Stepping Stones to Success
The Stepping Stones program is a 27 hour therapeutic course for families with relatives who are drug users run by the Family Drug Support group. The course is aimed specifically at helping family members (as opposed to the drug user).
