Cowra Local Court
Cowra Local Court is located at the corner of Kendal and Brisbane Streets. The Local Court is where all summary crime matters involving adults are finalised and where all criminal matters begin. The Local Court also hears Domestic and Personal Violence Order applications.
If you are charged with a serious offence which must be committed to the District Court of NSW later in the proceedings, your matter will be listed at another court, likely in Orange as the District Court does not sit at Cowra. Cowra Local Court does however sit as the Children’s Court, which deals with accused persons under the age of 18 years. The Children’s Court is a closed court, meaning that persons who are not involved in the matter are not permitted to be in court while the matter is being dealt with.
When you arrive at Cowra Local Court, ensure you make yourself known to the registrar or associate, who is generally holding a clipboard. Your matter will be called when the magistrate is ready to hear it. It is a small courthouse, and people generally congregate outside before their matter is called.

The Local Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that finalises summary criminal matters, including traffic offences, and Apprehended Domestic Violence Order applications.
Cowra Children’s Court
The Cowra Local Court sits as the Cowra Children’s Court for matters involving people under the age of 18. These are held in the same room as the Local Court, but anyone not connected with the case will be asked to leave when the Children’s Court is sitting.
