If you have recently been in a motor vehicle collision that caused the death of another person, you are at risk of being charged with this offence. This is a serious charge and you will be best served by seeking legal advice as soon as possible after the collision, even before you are charged.

What penalties am I facing?

If you are found guilty of this offence, you are likely to have a criminal conviction recorded against your name together with other penalties including a fine and licence disqualification and potentially a custodial sentence.

How long will I lose my licence for?

Upon conviction for negligent driving occasioning death you are facing an automatic licence disqualification period of 3 years.

In appropriate circumstances, the Court may reduce the disqualification to the minimum period of 12 months.
