Derby Magistrates Court

The Derby Courts are located at Loch Street, Derby, in Western Australia. It is located in the West Kimberley region of Northern Western Australia.

The Magistrates Court deals with summary criminal matters, minor civil matters and traffic law matters. Supreme Court Civil, Circuit and Criminal Sittings are listed to take place at the court on four occasions throughout the year.

The Derby courthouse also acts as a District Court registry for the commencement of civil law proceedings. District Court Civil, Circuit and Criminal Sittings will occur on eight occasions throughout the year.

The Derby Magistrates Court also sits as the Children’s Court, hearing summary criminal matters where the accused person is aged under 18. When a care and protection of children matter is filed in the Derby Court, it will be transferred into the Perth Children’s Court list, which will deal with the preliminary mentions. If the matter goes to contested hearing, a Perth magistrate will travel to Derby to hear the matter locally.

Family law matters are not heard at this court.
