Benalla Magistrates Court
The Benalla Magistrates Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that hears summary criminal matters including traffic offences, and domestic violence order applications. While the Magistrates Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Children’s Court (located in the same building) deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18 as well as hearing child protection and adoption matters.
If you have a matter in the Benalla Magistrates Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed, and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day.
Once you arrive at the Benalla Magistrates Court you will be required to make your way through security and make your way to the court registry and make known that you are in appearance at court. The registrar will then direct you into the courtroom. If you are represented on the day, your solicitor will generally undertake the above process of talking to the court staff on your behalf.
Taking the next step and contacting a lawyer can be scary. Our lawyers will make you feel comfortable so you can talk about your situation.
