In July 2021, the Transport Operations (Road Use Management – Road Rules) Regulation 2009 was amended to make it an offence for the driver of a vehicle to hold a mobile phone in their hand, or rest the phone on any part of their body, while the vehicle is moving, or stationary but not parked. In Queensland a driver who has had their licence suspended in some circumstances can apply for a special hardship order which will allow them to continue driving.
