South Port Magistrates Court
The Southport Courts are the major courts on the Gold Coast. They comprise a District Court, Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (FCFCA) and a Magistrates/Children’s Court. They are located at the corner of Davenport and Hinze Streets, Southport.
The Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia deals with family law matters such as parenting matters, financial matters and divorce as well as with other federal law matters. It sits in the same courtrooms as the Magistrates Court, which deals with summary crime and traffic matters involving adults. The Children’s Court, which deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18, also sits in the same courtroom.
When a family law matter is in the Southport circuit list, it is mentioned in Southport when administrative matters are being dealt with. However, major court events such as trials and conciliation conferences are held in the bigger court in Brisbane.
