Gladstone Magistrates Court
The Gladstone Magistrates Court is located at 14 Yaroon Street, Gladstone. The building is large and is easy to recognise from a distance. It is a unique two-storey building with a brick render. The District Court and Supreme Courts sit in the same courthouse as the Magistrates/Children’s Court.
The Magistrates’ Court deals with summary crime matters, including traffic matters, where the accused is an adult. The Children’s Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18.
Even though there is a Supreme and District Court at Gladstone, there are no permanent judges, and they will only circuit there once every couple of months for a few days. For this reason, it is important to have a lawyer before your first court event so that you know how you are going to proceed when you go to court. It is impossible to predict how long the court will run, so you should be prepared to be there for a good part of the day, depending on what kind of matter you have.
Since this is the only court in the area, it is a busy court, and there may be a line to pass through security, especially if there have been any recent COVID-19 restrictions. Once you enter the building, the registry is on your right, and the courtroom is straight ahead. If you are required to sign bail undertakings, good behaviour bonds, or any other court documents, this can be done at the registry located near the entrance.
There is plenty of parking on the street outside the Gladstone Courts, but some parks have time limits. If you are attending court for a traffic matter where a period of licence disqualification may be imposed, do not drive to court.
Taking the next step and contacting a lawyer can be scary. Our lawyers will make you feel comfortable so you can talk about your situation.
