The Brisbane Magistrates Court is located at 363 George Street, Brisbane. It is just around the corner from the Federal Circuit Court and Family Court and in the same block as the Supreme and District Court and the Mental Health Court.

The Magistrates Court is the court where all criminal matters involving adults commence. It is also the court that hears summary criminal matters including traffic offences, and domestic violence order applications. While the Brisbane Magistrates Court deals with criminal matters where the accused is aged 18 or older, the Brisbane Children’s Court (located in the same building) deals with criminal matters where the accused is under 18 as well as hearing child protection and adoption matters.

If you have a matter in the Brisbane Magistrates Court, make sure you arrive at court well before the time your matter is listed to be heard. You should be neatly and conservatively dressed and you should come prepared to be at court for most of the day.

Parking is scarce in the Brisbane CBD but the court is located close to Roma Street train station. If you are attending court for traffic offences for which the court may impose a licence disqualification period, it is particularly important that you do not drive to court.

The court list is displayed on screens in the foyer. You will be able to establish which courtroom your matter will be heard in by looking at those screens, or by asking at the court registry.

While the Brisbane Magistrates Court generally deals with matters where the defendant resides in the inner suburbs of Brisbane or in the CBD, there are also Magistrates Courts located in numerous suburbs, including Redcliff, Beenleigh and Caboolture.
