Andrew Fraser (Senior Associate)
Andrew works in the areas of criminal law and traffic law, providing practical advice in all of his clients’ matters.
Andrew has, over many years, developed positive working relationships with prosecutors, magistrates and judges. His no-nonsense approach means he has a reputation for putting forward the best case possible for clients.
Andrew has won many matters for his clients, including costs orders against the prosecuting authorities. He believes in thorough, practical assistance for his clients, including where necessary arranging for Counsel to be involved and arranging home visits or visits at prison or police stations.
His breadth of experience allows him to tailor his advice and submissions to ensure the best possible results for his clients.
Before beginning legal practice, Andrew had an extensive career as a journalist, including working in the Federal Parliamentary Press Gallery and reporting Canberra’s courts, as well as a brief stint as a political adviser. He interviewed many legal figures, including a number of High Court judges. Because of his past life experience, he brings a realistic approach to his legal advice and representation.
Andrew sits on the AFL Canberra Tribunal and continues to contribute legal and other articles to various publications. Andrew is a board member of Directions ACT, a leading drug, alcohol, support and counselling service based in Canberra.
Andrew represents clients in the ACT Supreme and Magistrates Courts as well as the NSW Local and District Courts of the Canberra region. He has appeared also before the ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal in licensing, mental-health and other matters.
In is spare time, he is a piper with the Canberra Burns Club Pipe Band, and has played at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.
