Sugar Daddies Pay For Law Degree, But Are They De Facto?

A university student in the U.S. is due to graduate with her law degree and has stated she is free of any student debt.

How you ask? Law degrees are expensive, I know! She has used the assistance of a variety of sugar daddies to financially assist her through her degree and she is due to graduate debt free, compared to her peers who have six figure debts.

As I understand it, the person seeking financial assistance uses an online website akin to a dating website which connects these people with sugar daddies who are financially able and wanting to assist these people. A sexual relationship is not mandatory although may be part of the deal.

This isn’t the first time university students have turned to selling themselves for money. Many students have turned to prostitution or stripping to get through expensive degrees, including medicine and it is often played out in many movies.

But with this new approach to financial assistance and the Internet connecting more people than ever before, does it create issues in family law as to the existence of a de facto relationship?

The answer will of course depend on each situation and the various factors in existence. For example, did the sugar daddy and student live together on a genuine domestic basis, what was there outward appearance to friends and strangers down the street, did they think they were a couple. Of course if there were a child of this union this would change things too.
